Brenda Stone

I’m Brenda Stone, a contemporary abstract artist based in beautiful North Queensland, where the ocean, light and landscape constantly inspire my work.

For the past 18 years, I’ve been creating original artworks for both residential and corporate spaces — from hotel rooms and schools to newly renovated businesses and private homes. I love seeing how art can completely transform a space, bringing energy, depth and a sense of connection.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from James Cook University in 2007 in my hometown of Townsville, and I’ve continued to grow my practice from The Drill Hall Studio Gallery, where I work as a resident artist.

In recent years, my work has travelled further than I ever imagined — with paintings finding homes in Dubai, Japan and New Zealand, and exhibitions in New York City, Japan and Bali. I also stepped into the digital space as a featured artist in The Corals NFT Art Project, an Australian initiative raising funds for the restoration of the Great Barrier Reef through blockchain technology. Exploring digital art opened up an entirely new creative pathway for me.

Closer to home, I’ve had the privilege of working on some incredible large-scale projects, including Townsville’s Flinders Lane in partnership with Martin Locke Homes. Most recently, I was commissioned by Townsville Airport to create a 150sqm ocean-inspired mural which celebrates our region’s tropical tones and natural beauty, welcoming visitors as they arrive.

My creative journey has also expanded beyond large-scale artworks into smaller, wearable and functional pieces. Through my resin earrings and homewares, I’ve been able to create portable art - little pieces of the ocean and North Queensland that people can wear or bring into their homes. You’ll now find my work available through the Townsville Airport and in a number of beautiful locations around Townsville, making my art more accessible than ever.

And truly, I feel like this is only the beginning. Every new space, collaboration and idea continues to inspire me - and I’m so grateful to keep creating art that connects people to place, colour and feeling.

You’ll find my artwork at The Drill Hall Studio, Co-Habitat Working Space, Smart Precinct NQ, Clements Medical Centre and by consultation.
